Oldham is set to host its first Green Summit next month as the borough continues to try and become the greenest area in Manchester.

The event will look to help local organisations and businesses to work together to tackle climate change, share best practices and find out about green grants and financial support.

The Green Summit aims to build on Oldham Council’s Green New Deal, which is the local authority's strategy to make council buildings and street lighting carbon neutral by 2025, as well as making the borough as a whole to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Cllr Abdul Jabbar MBE, Cabinet member for finance and corporate resources, who is organising the event, said: "We’re working hard to be the greenest borough in Greater Manchester and we’re making great progress, but we recognise this has to be a collective effort.

"We know your business or organisation will also have your own carbon neutral targets, and we want to support you to reach them.

"As a council, we want to work with all businesses and organisations in the borough, no matter how big or small, to help you achieve your net zero target, while at the same time helping you to generate power from renewable sources and save money on energy bills."

The event, which is free to attend, is set to take place on Friday, March 8, starting at 9am and finishing at 1pm, at the Oldham Event Centre at Boundary Park, with free parking, refreshments and lunch set to be provided.

Oldham Council has said businesses with an interest in sustainability are invited to attend and can book a place by emailing invest@oldham.gov.uk.
