Oldham's last nightclub, Liquid and Envy, which closed its doors earlier this month, is set to reopen just weeks after its sudden closure.

On February 2, it was announced that the nightclub in Oldham town centre would be shutting down after the company that managed it, Rekom UK, drafted in administrators as part of a major restructuring in January.

Many Oldhamers were gutted to see the Retiro Street site close down, however, clubgoers will soon be able to return to the popular venue in just two weeks on March 8.

A new lease has been agreed between the landlord and Kevin Spencer, who has 30 years of experience in the industry of running nightclubs and bars.

Mr Spencer said he heard about Liquid and Envy's closure and decided to make a move quickly.

He said: "Situations like this are pretty rare, the club wasn't losing money.

"It's a very popular venue which hasn't had any investment over the past 20 years."

Mr Spencer, who is from York, said the aim is to get the club up and running again as quick as he can.

He said: "I didn't want to waste any time because you can lose trade and this club had a decent amount of trade."

Work is currently going on in the club to restore the lights and other aspects of the venue, but Mr Spencer said he is not looking to change much about Oldham's last club.

He said he will be keeping the name and that the original DJs will be returning to their usual slots on the weekends, although he does plan invest in the venue to make some improvements.

The announcement of the club's return on social media was welcome news to many clubgoers who celebrated the news.
