A man who stole a digger from Royal Oldham Hospital and also assaulted two police officers in Oldham has been jailed.

Kevin Dymond appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday, February 22, after pleading guilty to two counts of theft, two counts of common assault on an emergency worker, failure to surrender to court bail and possession of an offensive weapon in public.

His offending began on July 9, 2021, when Dymond, of no fixed abode, stole a one-tonne B&W Plant hire micro excavator, or digger, from Royal Oldham.

On April 2 last year, the 31-year-old was in Oldham, where he stole two four-packs of Stella Artois pint cans worth £15 from a shop.

He also assaulted two male police officers and when he was required to surrender to custody at Tameside Magistrates' Court on May 19 having been released on bail, he failed to attend.

Dymond's final crime came on November 22, when he was found to be carrying a baton on Promenade, by the seaside in Blackpool.

In total, Dymond was sentenced to 11 months in prison for his crimes, while the baton was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

He was also made to pay a victim surcharge of £187.
