An Oldham police officer accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl while on duty has pleaded guilty to the offence.

PC Dean Dempster, from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), has admitted to sexually touching a child while on duty last year.

The 34-year-old, of Langford Road, Didsbury, Manchester, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Wednesday, February 28), where he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Demspter pleaded not guilty to the second charge of misconduct in a public office, due to the alleged assault being committed while on duty, which has been ordered to lie on file.

The police officer, who joined GMP in 2021 after serving as a special constable and ambulance service paramedic, was charged with assault of the girl by sexual touching and a second of misconduct in a public office, due to the alleged assault being committed while on duty.

Following Dempster’s arrest on New Year’s Eve last year, a spokesman for GMP said he had been suspended from duty and misconduct proceedings would resume upon the conclusion of criminal proceedings.
