An investigation launched after a traffic warden was pictured parking on double yellow lines in Oldham has come to an end.

Earlier this year, Oldham Council looked into one of its civil enforcement officers following allegations that they illegally parked their work van on Crompton Street to visit Cookies Filling Station.

But six weeks on, the authority explained that the investigation concluded the warden had parked their car on double yellows to issue a car a ticket on Rochdale Road.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Our parking enforcement officers are exempt from traffic orders when carrying out the duties of their role.

“An internal investigation concluded this to be the case, with the officer involved, parking on Crompton Street to take enforcement action against a car on a nearby street.

“While we will always encourage our officers to park where there are no restrictions, if possible, we ask residents to understand that this may not always be the case.”

Pictures taken by Arron Jackson, a nearby resident, on January 10 showed the enforcement officer's car parked 40 yards up Crompton Street and facing Rochdale Road.

Speaking at the time the 32-year-old told The Oldham Times that he saw the traffic warden visit the cafe.

He said: "I'm getting quite cheesed off with the parking enforcement team at Oldham Council.

"When they are doing their job they are allowed to park on double yellow lines, but the other day I saw one of them park up on double yellows and go into a cafe.

"I've been ticketed in the past so when I see them illegally parked and having a sandwich and a chit chat, it's really frustrating."

Arron continued: "I've received one or two fines from them in the past so it just cheeses me off when I see them do it.

"When the parking enforcement team come along and have a chit chat it's almost as frustrating as when you see the police do it!

"You see it all the time but this time it's really annoyed me."
