A man who broke into a pub in Oldham town centre and stole alcohol has avoided jail.

Alan Kelsall, of no fixed abode, entered The Up Steps Inn pub on High Street as a trespasser on September 3 last year.

After breaking into the Wetherspoons pub, the 49-year-old stole £120 worth of alcohol.

At Tameside Magistrates' Court on March 4, Kelsall was sentenced after having pleaded guilty at a previous hearing.

He was handed a community order which includes an electronic monitor to last three months.

He was also ordered to carry out 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

A man has been sentenced for assaulting a police officer.

Michael Taylor, of Edge Hill Road, Royton, assaulted the male officer in Oldham on February 18.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on March 4, the 47-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £100 and a fine of £120.

A man has been banned from driving after getting behind the wheel while under the influence of cannabis.

Anjum Zaman, of Sefton Avenue, Leeds, was driving on Manchester Road in Oldham on June 26, 2022, when he was found to have delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive constituent of cannabis, in his system.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on February 27, the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to drug driving and was sentenced.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months and was made to pay a fine of £450, a victim surcharge of £180 and further costs of £620, bringing his total costs to £1,250.
