Five months have passed since we reported the grand opening of Cafe Grill Royton - an exciting new establishment offering spicy dishes to residents, so yesterday while in the area I thought I'd pay it a visit.

Walking in I was met with smiles from behind the till, the hum of old women chatting, and a father with his silent newborn - which unbeknown to me were the ingredients for a warm atmosphere.

Modern fittings can be found throughout the Market Square premises with plush and comfy upholstery, marble effect tables and flooring, industrial lighting and neon lights. The Oldham Times: Cafe Grill Royton, on Market SquareCafe Grill Royton, on Market Square (Image: Newsquest)

I ordered the Cafe Grill special burger which comes with a side of fries, sweet sauce (check) and a drink - a can of Dr Pepper in my case, something I haven't had in years and harks me back to my childhood selling multipacks of the stuff on the bus before school and in the playground to help fund my sweets habit. I digress.

It comes to £7.99, a bargain in any corner of Greater Manchester.
Beef, breaded chicken, lettuce and homemade hot sauce made up the burger, between your standard bun - although the slider was nothing of the sort.

The chips were as good as any you would find at any fast food place, the burger was good but the sauce elevated it to another level.

It was sweet but held a kick, complimenting both the beef and the chicken delightfully.

As it cane to an end it left me wanting more, but what good is a review if I order the same meal twice? Probably best to go with something more sweet - a Lotus Biscoff cake and a cup of tea.

"It's nice isn't it in here," I heard from two ladies who walked in and just discovered this little slice of heaven.

The cake is soft and sweet, melting in my mouth with each spoonful.
It's halal, as is all the food here.

The tea was different to brews that I've had before, there was bits of tea at the end but that's my rookie error for not stirring it!

All good things must come to an end, I settled my bill which came to £13.49 with the brew costing £2 and the cake £3.50.

A steady stream of customers filtered in throughout my stay and I found out why - I walked out a happy man and I'll be back to try the team's breakfast.
