A driver has been arrested after failing to stop for motorway police on Sunday, March 17.

The driver of a black Mercedes car failed to stop for GMP patrols near Denton, before making their way into Oldham on the M60.

Motorway officers pursued the driver on the M60 to Ashton before successfully boxing in the vehicle.

Police then arrested the driver for dangerous driving before seizing the vehicle.

The vehicle was seized under section 165A of the Road Traffic Act – which allows police to seize a vehicle if a driver is unable to produce their driving licence for examination, if the driver does not have insurance, or if a driver fails to stop for police.

Those looking to reclaim their vehicle after it has been seized have 14 days to prove satisfactory ownership and to provide legitimate insurance at a police station, or their vehicle will be disposed of, according to GMP.

Vehicles can be scrapped or sold at auction.

When vehicles are sold at auction, drivers may be entitled to claim the proceeds of the sale if they can prove legitimate and satisfactory ownership within 12 months.
