To those who live in Saddleworth, the stunning scenery is no secret. Breathtaking moorland views and tranquil reservoirs are normal.

It’s a world away from Manchester city centre – a concrete jungle which can feel overwhelming and noisy.

However, just a 25-minute train ride from Manchester’s Piccadilly Station is award-winning Greenfield café Station Brew.

Located next to Greenfield station, on Shaw Hall Bank Road, the café offers stunning scenery from its window as well as a wide range of sweet and savoury treats, including all-day breakfast, with vegan and vegetarian options available.

Cozy and warm wooden furnishings give Station Brew the feeling of a log cabin, complete with artificial log fire.

A range of hot drinks makes the café a perfect place to rest and recharge following a windy hike around Dovestone Reservoir, for example, or even just a mosey around Greenfield village.

Books covering local history surround you as you sit back and take in the delicious food, much of which is made with locally sourced ingredients – including speciality coffee from Dark Woods Roastery in Marsden, and traditional Lancashire oven-bottom muffins from Carrs the Bakers in Stalybridge.

Generously filled toasties are made with award-winning artisan bread from Roger’s Bakery in Marsden, providing a satisfying crunch without feeling stale.

Friendly and attentive staff help contribute to the convivial atmosphere in the café. Even on a Tuesday lunchtime, the café felt lively, but not crowded.

Those looking to take something home can also find a well-stocked gift section at the front of the café, including jars of Saddleworth Honey Co honey, and locally handmade earrings, amongst other items.

Living up to its name, those planning on taking a trip by train needn’t worry about missing it – Station Brew even has a screen in its front room showing updated departures, so you’ll know if you have time for an extra slice of cake, or if you need to get something to go.
