All of these cases involving people from Oldham or crimes committed in the borough have been before the magistrates or crown courts in recent weeks.

A man who carried out several assaults, including on two police officers, has avoided prison.

Christian Astley, of Ripponden Road, Denshaw, committed his offending on January 27 this year in Oldham while he was under the influence of alcohol.

The 50-year-old caused £100 worth of damage to the door of a property before assaulting a man and woman who the property belonged to.

Astley then assaulted both a male and female police officer.

At Tameside Magistrates' Court on March 11, Astley pleaded guilty to criminal damage, two counts of assault and two counts of assault on an emergency worker, with his assaults including a headbutt, kicking and spitting.

He was given a six-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and must undergo nine months of treatment for alcohol.

Astley was also ordered to attend 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirement and must pay a total of £275 in compensation to the man and woman he assaulted.

A man has been banned from the roads for a series of offences.

Muhammed Rana, of Amberley Close, Bolton, was driving in Oldham on March 24 last year when he was found to be driving without a valid test certificate, no licence, no insurance and a cracked windscreen.

The 26-year-old then obstructed a police officer in execution of their duty.

Rana pleaded guilty to driving without a valid test certificate, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, using a vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury and obstructing a police officer on February 2 this year.

At Tameside Magistrates' Court on March 15, Rana was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay fines totalling £1,000, a victim surcharge of £280 and further costs of £85.

A man has been banned from driving after getting behind the wheel under the influence of cannabis.

Francis Collins, of Middleton Road, Oldham, was driving in Chester on August 22 last year when he was found to have THC, the main psychoactive constituent of cannabis, in his system.

At Chester Magistrates' Court on March 12, the 36-year-old pleaded guilty to drug driving and was banned from driving for a year, as well as being made to pay a fine of £120, a victim surcharge of £48 and further costs of £120.
