People in Saddleworth will get to have their say on a vital planning document that is set to be published soon.

The neighbourhood plan, which sets out what can be built and where over the next 20 years, is put forward by a group of experts.

A draft version of Saddleworth’s new neighbourhood plan is expected to be ready by the start of next month, and it will then become the subject of a public consultation.

The plan describes the parish council’s vision for the neighbourhood, which includes new homes, shops, offices, schools and healthcare buildings.

A spokesperson for the parish council said: “Our vision is that Saddleworth will be made up of many thriving communities, each with its own strong identity, offering great opportunities for people to live, work and play here.”

The plan, which will be reviewed every five years, is the result of consultation with residents and organisations – and has a focus on sustainability.

The parish council added that it was keen to ensure Saddleworth never becomes a “dormitory area” for conurbations in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire, and instead benefit from nearby economic, social and environmental links.
