A man has died after a house fire devastated his Tameside home.

The fire ripped through the home on Kipling Avenue, in Droylsden, shortly after midnight (April 10) and the man, who is yet to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman and a child managed to escape the blaze without any injuries, and an investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) to establish a timeline of events leading up to the blaze.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, of GMP’s Tameside district, said: "This is clearly a devastating and shocking incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and that remains in our thoughts as we start to progress our investigations into the circumstances of the fire.

"I would like to reassure the public that this is being treated as an isolated incident and the public will notice an increase of police officers and staff in the area over the coming days as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please do feel free to approach us in the area."

She added: "Our investigation is still in its early stages, and we are continuing to follow a number of lines of enquiry.

"If you have any information at all which could assist with our enquiries please do not hesitate to contact police as soon as possible."

Residents with any information have been urged to report it to the police by using the live chat function on its website.

Alternatively they can call 0161 856 9262 quoting log 6 of 10/4/2024, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
