A legendary rockstar and his American ex-wife both have a connection to Oldham.

The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger and his former Texan wife Jerry Hall have descendants hailing from the borough.

While the 80-year-old singer was aware of his links to Saddleworth, the 67-year-old model-turned-actress dove deeper into her ancestry in front of a BBC One film crew.

Sir Mick’s grandfather David Jagger, hailed from the borough and has a plaque dedicated to him in St Mary's Church, Greenfield, and was also the headmaster at the village's St Mary’s CE Primary School.

His father Basil 'Joe' Jagger, followed in his dad's footsteps and became a teacher at Hulme Grammar School, Oldham.

Meanwhile, when Hall starred in an episode of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' the celebrity genealogy series found her dad's family originated from Oldham.

The description for the episode read: "Jerry Hall knows her father's family were originally from Oldham but wants to find out how they ended up in America.

"Her journey takes her from the cotton mills of Lancashire to the plains of Texas at the time of the railroads.

"Once there, Jerry also investigates her mother's side of the family and discovers her ancestors' pioneering roots as they blazed a trail west across America at the time of the Frontier, and a connection to the original pioneer and folk hero - Daniel Boone."

While the pair may not be the most famous people from Oldham, according to YouGov, they could have staked a claim to be the most famous couple from Oldham at one point.

Jagger and Hall dated for more than a decade before they tied the knot in Bali in 1990, and were married for nine years before divorce.

The couple had four children together over their 22-year relationship, while Jagger has gone on to have another four - the youngest being seven years old.
