The following planning applications relate to some of the biggest development stories in Oldham over the past fortnight.

New café and bakery could be on the horizon

A new café and hot food bakery could be developed after plans were lodged to replace a vacant former restaurant.

A proposal has been submitted to bring the new cafe to what used to be Jayz Two in One on Chadderton Way.

The unit is currently empty but these new plans would see it brought back into use.

132 new homes in Derker

More than 130 eco-friendly homes, a third of which will be affordable, are set to be developed in Derker after plans were approved.

At the meeting of Oldham Council's planning committee on Wednesday, April 17, the proposal to build 132 homes on vacant land was presented to members.

The homes will be built on four separate locations; 47 homes will be built on Abbotsford Road, 29 on Evelyn Street and 28 homes on both London Road and Cromford Street.

The homes will be developed by Hive Homes and 43 homes, roughly a third of the total proposed properties, will be made affordable and carbon neutral, including 23 which will be affordable rent properties and 20 which will be shared ownership dwellings.

Pop-up theatre coming to Oldham

The pop-up theatre being organised by the company behind Oldham Coliseum is coming to the Civic Centre car park this spring and summer.

Members of the council's planning committee unanimously approved the plans for the 167-seat temporary structure, opening next week and running until mid-July.

The theatre will be based in the southeast corner of the car park and will see 35 parking bays out of action during that time, including two disabled spots.

Concerns were raised about the temporary loss of the disabled spots, but committee members were assured it would only be for a few months and the theatre would bring other benefits.
