A man has been fined by the courts for begging in Oldham town centre.

Gary Milton, of Eton Avenue, Oldham, was in the town centre on April 10 earlier this month, when he was found to be begging.

The 34-year-old appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Thursday, April 11, where he pleaded guilty to begging in a public place on a second or subsequent occasion.

Milton was fined £100 for his offence.

Begging in England is a criminal offence under both section three of the Vagrancy Act 1824 and section 70 of the Criminal Justice Act 1982.
