Plans have been approved for a new takeaway restaurant in Oldham town centre.

Back in November, plans were submitted to turn the ground floor of an empty retail space into a new takeaway which would have a dining and waiting area as well as the kitchen and prep area.

Now, these plans have been given the go-ahead, meaning a new takeaway will be coming to King Street in the town centre, although the type of food that will be served is still unknown.

In an application report prepared by planning officer for Oldham Council, Matthew Taylor, it was said that the site becoming a takeaway restaurant would "not be detrimental" to the area as there are more likely to be takeaway outlets in a town centre and there is another takeaway close by - Georgia Fried Chicken.

The only alteration expected to be made to the exterior of the building is the addition of a central front access doorway, which should not have a major impact on the building itself.

As part of the conditions of the approval, the takeaway will operate between the hours of 9am to 1am between Sunday and Thursday but can stay open until 2am between Thursday and Saturday.

The application was recommended for approval and was formally given the green light on Wednesday (April 24).
