A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 'gun' was shot in Oldham.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have arrested a 28-year-old man following reports of a firearm being discharged in Glodwick, at 5.30pm yesterday (April 26).

Officers were stationed on Minton Street, which was partially closed for several hours, to carry out enquiries and identified a suspect who they later arrested.

The window of a fish and chip shop was damaged, and the force believe it was caused by a firearm.

A vehicle has been recovered in connection with the incident and the premises remain closed while the investigation is taking place.

DCI Lindsay Booth said: "This was a frightening incident and not something we will not tolerate on the streets of Greater Manchester.

"This could have resulted in serious injury or death but fortunately no one was injured.

"Our officers were on the scene quickly and will remain in the area for a few days, followed up by regular patrols."

She continued: "I would like to thank the residents of Minton Street and the surrounding area for their patience last night as they assisted our officers with their enquiries.

"We will always act on reports and intelligence from the public to keep our communities safe."

Residents with information, including dashcam footage, or was in the area at the time have been urged to contact GMP on 101 quoting log 2758 of 25/4/24.
