The partnership responsible for the redevelopment of Stretford Mall is asking residents to name the square at the heart of the high street.

Developer Bruntwood and the council are in the process of restoring King Street as a part of phase one of the work on the town centre.

Tomorrow (May 4), at a Stretford Socials event at Stretford Mall, and for the following two weeks via a voting box or via a website, the partnership responsible for the redevelopment is asking residents to name the square according to one of three themes: community, culture or heritage.

The suggestions are to be put into a shortlist at the end of this month and put to a public poll at the start of next month before the winner is revealed at The StretFest on July 6.

Bruntwood's Head of Retail James Tootle said: "The public square will be at the heart of Stretford Town Centre and who better to name it than the community. It will provide a hub for the town centre, a space for everybody in the community, and our vision is it will inspire even more great collaborations and play an important role in the area.

"We want to hear from as many people as possible so come and see us at the Stretford Socials and submit your ideas, or do so via the postbox in The Mall, or online. We cannot wait to hear ideas from the community and to work together to take another step towards a better town centre."

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: "The public square will be an exciting and vibrant addition to the new-look Stretford Town Centre. We are delighted to be teaming up with Bruntwood to launch the competition to name the new square.

"We would encourage as many people as possible to take part – good luck."

The Stretford Socials event is at Stretford Mall tomorrow (May 4) between the hours of 12pm and 4pm.

All suggestions can be submitted via a voting box or via www.stretfordtowncentre.co.uk/name-the-square.
