Llandybie fell to defeat in their last game of the season, marked by the retirement of loyal prop Dai Lloyd after a splendid 21-season run.

The Thursday clash on home turf against Trimsaran saw the curtain fall on Lloyd’s impressive career that spanned more than 400 games.

The beloved club man was deservedly given a guard of honour as he entered the field and was appointed captain for the closing encounter.

Llandybie, along with a few older players who returned for Lloyd's tribute, aimed to bounce back from a disappointing previous Saturday match against Llandeilo.

However, Trimsaran, also looking for redemption from a poor showing against Tregaron, grabbed a quick lead with two early converted tries.

Hosts Llandybie rallied back with good carries from Josh Powell, Jordan Tommason, and Merlyn McClelland. A scrum led to winger Luke Sutton scoring a try, converted by Rhys Tench.

Their resurgence continued with Steff Thomas scoring wide out, taking the hosts within two points of the visitors.

However, an error in a Llandybie lineout allowed Trimsaran to score just before half time leading 21 – 12.

Into the second half, strong contributions from Steff Coombes, Aled Tommason, Ethan Walters, Christian Davies and Thomas gave Llandybie some hope despite Trim adding another try, pushing their lead to 28 – 12.

Controlled driving scrums from no. 8 McClelland led to a series of penalties conceded by Trim.

Following a skilful run from Tom Davies, Dan Slattery put in a cross kick resulting in a Rhys Jones scored try.

Despite dominating possession in the visitor's 22 towards the end, a combination of ill-timed decisions and solid Trim defence kept any further Llandybie scores at bay.

The final whistle confirmed Trim the victors, 28 - 17.

In a mark of respect, applause rang out for the retiring Lloyd, echoing what was certainly a bright finish to a long rugby journey that Llandybie will remember fondly.
