An application to build dozens of homes on the site of a former mental health resource centre have been withdrawn.

The plans were for the site of The Hollies centre on Frederick Street in Werneth and outlined the building of 28 homes on the property.

However, the plans were withdrawn last Thursday (August 1).

Drawings and documents included in the plans showed each house having an individual driveway with space for up to three cars per household.

This would have added, in maximum capacity, 84 cars to the area.

The development would have included the creation of a new adopted access road for residents and would have connected to the existing sewage system.

According to the application form, the plans originally requested the erection of 32 numbered dwellings, but this was then lowered to 28.

The homes themselves were to be three levels high, with two lounge areas, kitchen and dining areas, as well as a garage and a washroom on the ground level

The first floor was to include four bedrooms, a landing space and a main bathroom and en suite.

Lastly, the second floor would have been in the attic area with dormers and feature a bathroom, linen area and two bedrooms.

Plans also sought to remove a number of trees from the area and demolish any of the existing buildings still on the site.

The Hollies centre was a longstanding feature in Oldham, having been a care home, a social care centre and resource centre in the past.

However the site fell into disrepair after use of the building stopped in 2015, according to the planning applications, and the building was demolished.

The full plans for the development can still be viewed on Oldham Council's planning website.

The developer which submitted the plans has been approached for comment.
