A new MOT test and vehicle repairs centre is set to open on the site of a former ironworks in Oldham.
With plans laid out in a planning application submitted to Oldham Council on July 29, the new centre, if approved, is set to add further to the already busy business site.
Hoping to open a shop at the former site of Star Iron Works on Greenacres Road, in the Greenacres area of Oldham, the new business would be able to test MOTs of vehicles and also carry out repairs.
The applicants have applied for the change of use as well as permission to install a new roller shutter, on the left side of the building.
Plans also show the changes of rooms inside the building, and a small extension of a toilet area.
Currently, plans show the ground floor is almost entirely used for storage, but the plans request changing this to single storage and workshop area and changing the main room and back room to an MOT test space with parking and a vehicle repairs space respectively.
For the new roller shutter, there will be two lower windows removed to accommodate the change.
The site itself was built towards the end of the nineteenth century by William Toole as an iron foundry.
Most recently, a mobile tyre service has operated from the unit, which is surrounded by other industrial businesses, including Universal Fabrications who manufacture sheet metal.
According to google maps, the closest MOT test centre to the address is just under a mile away on Daniel Street.
