Shock over incident 'involving machete' on busy Oldham road

An incident involving a machete took place in the middle of the afternoon on a busy town centre road, a social media post has alleged. 

The post, shared in the community Facebook group Royton Community Hub, claimed that at around 4pm on Sunday (July 27), a girl was approached on Rochdale Road by a man with a machete.

The post said that the girl ran to a nearby business for help and was unharmed.

The post said that the police were then called.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged over an incident in that location.

Hayden Turner, of no fixed abode, has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, possession of Class B drugs, money laundering, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Turner has been remanded in custody ahead of a scheduled appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court on September 2.
