The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Storm Floris is set to hit parts of the UK next week.
In place from 6am on Monday (August 4) until Tuesday morning, the warning covers Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
Transport is likely to be affected, with road, rail, air, and ferry services all at risk of disruption or cancellation due to the unseasonably strong winds.
Power cuts are also possible, which could affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.
The Met Office said: "Storm Floris will bring a spell of unusually windy weather for the time of year across the northern half of the UK early next week
"The strongest winds are most likely to occur across Scotland during Monday afternoon and night, although there remains some uncertainty in the depth and track of Floris.
"Across the warning area, many inland areas are likely to see westerly wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph with 60 to 70 mph possible along exposed coasts and high ground, especially Scotland.
"Winds will first ease in the west during later Monday but remain very strong overnight until early Tuesday in the east.
"Heavy rain may also contribute to the disruption in places."
The Met Office has advised people to secure loose items around their homes, such as bins, garden furniture, and trampolines, to prevent them from being blown away.
They also warned of possible damage to buildings, including roof tiles being blown off, as well as a risk of injuries or danger to life from flying debris.
The public is also being urged to stay up to date with weather forecasts, as warnings may change quickly.
