New details have been shared following the death of a young man "who brought energy and happiness to everyone".

At Rochdale Coroners' Court on Thursday (October 9), an inquest was opened by assistant coroner for Manchester North, Julie Mitchell, into the death of Jordan Relph, 20.

Mr Relph, who lived on New Market Street in Ashton-under-Lyne, died after an incident shortly before 6am on Glodwick Road, Oldham, on September 18 which involved the young man and a car.

Following his death, tributes were paid to Mr Relph, with former Youth Mayor of Oldham, Tia Henderson, describing him as a "little human Red Bull, who brought energy and happiness to everyone".

A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds for Mr Relph's funeral, which has raised more than £4,000.

Police Coroners Officer Megan Seddon told the court that on the morning of September 18, Mr Relph was walking down Glodwick Road with a friend when the pair got into a "verbal altercation".

The friend walked away before Mr Relph entered the road where he "collapsed".

The court heard that the driver of a vehicle failed to see Mr Relph in the street and a collision took place, with Mr Relph dying.

Ms Seddon said an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Greater Manchester Police previously said the 53-year-old driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving before being bailed pending further enquiries.

Ms Mitchell told the court that an inquest into Mr Relph's death was needed and that a review would be held on September 18 next year, while no full inquest date was set.

She concluded by offering her condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr Relph.
