Six people from Oldham were caught shoplifting items, including coffee, alcohol, and cosmetics.

The shoplifters have all been brought in front of Magistrates in hearings at Tameside Magistrates' Court and Manchester Magistrates' Court in recent weeks.

One shoplifter, Lewis McDermott, was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates' Court on October 6, and must serve 12 weeks in prison.

McDermott, of Saint Thomas Street North, stole £207.46 worth of cosmetics from Asda on September 24, and £140 worth of cosmetics from Boots on September 30.

McDermott then stole eight necklaces from Next on October 3, though the total value of these is unknown.

He also breached a criminal behaviour order made by Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on May 12 this year, which said that McDermott must not enter Boots on Chadderton shopping precinct.

The sentence of imprisonment was ordered due to the 25-year-old's 'flagrant disregard for people and their property', court documents said.

McDermott pleaded guilty to all the offences.

Robert Phipps was also caught shoplifting and pleaded guilty on October 1 at Manchester Magistrates' Court.

Phipps, of Spring Street, will be sentenced on November 10 for the theft of alcohol worth £40 from Sainsbury's on September 23.

The 43-year-old will be sentenced at Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Also on October 1, David Usher pleaded guilty to theft of a bottle of wine.

The 40-year-old, of Littlemoor Lane, stole red wine worth £7 from Co-op food on Oxford Road in Manchester.

He was fined £60 and must also pay £7 compensation.

Lauren Collins, 25, indicated guilty to three shoplifting offences at a hearing at Tameside Magistrates Court on September 22.

On August 30, Collins, of no fixed abode Howard Street, stole £271.40 worth of goods from Asda Chadderton.

The day before (August 29), Collins had stolen five Nescafe coffee jars, to the value of £33.75, from B&M on Ellen Street.

She then stole laundry products and a Red Bull, to the value of £60, from Heron Foods.

Collins will be sentenced on December 3.

Bradley Porter, of Yorkshire Street also pleaded guilty to the offence of theft from a shop at a hearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court on September 22.

The 43-year-old stole £30 worth of confectionery from Morrisons Daily on Reddish Road, Stockport.

He must pay £30 compensation.
