A hotel for cats will open in a unit in a mill, which was formerly a dog daycare, after planning permission was granted.

The cat hotel will open in a unit at Victoria Mill in Shaw, just off Scowcroft Lane, and will also offer grooming services for cats.

The unit was formerly home to Doolittle's Dogs, and the signage remained up as of June 2025, according to Google Maps.

However, the planning application states the site has been vacant for more than 12 months.

The applicant stated that little changes would be made to the building and planning documents, which show the proposed and existing floor plans, demonstrate that the main change would be the main change would be the installation of 21 smaller rooms around the edge of the main space.

The documents state that all rooms will be at least two metres by two metres.

A comment made in support of the application highlights that 'cats make less noise than dogs' and so there would be no 'barking all day' as it states there was previously.

There were no objections to the application.

The planning officer stated that while the unit has no dedicated parking, the external yard offers parking space for all of the businesses at the mill.

The planning officer stated: "The previous approval for the dog day care had an opening hours condition applied to the permission to regulate comings/goings and this was between 7:30am-7:30pm Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday and 10am-5pm Sunday and Bank/Public Holidays.

"This application has requested opening times of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, 9am-12pm Saturdays and 10am-12pm, which are considered acceptable; therefore, a condition has been added for these times in order to ensure residential amenity surrounding the site.

"When considering the existing use, which is very similar to the proposed, the new use would not give rise to any residential amenity issues in regard to noise or disturbance."

The application was approved on Thursday (November 20).
