Run Away, the new Harlan Coben adaptation partly filmed in Oldham, has dethroned Stranger Things to become the current number one show on Netflix.
The eight-part thriller, which stars James Nesbitt and Ruth Jones, landed on the streaming service on January 1 and has been steadily climbing the ranks since.
Run Away tells the story of a father desperately trying to find his runaway daughter, who seems to have been linked to a murder investigation.
Starring alongside Nesbitt and Jones are Oscar-nominated Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch, best known for his roles in the Harry Potter films and How to Get Away With Murder.
It was filmed in and around the North West of England, including the Saddleworth Moors near Marsden and Oldham’s Alexandra Park.
This is the 12th Netflix adaptation from the popular crime novelist and seems to be following in the success of its predecessors, such as Fool Me Once, which was also filmed partly in Oldham, and Missing You.

Just days after its release, Coben fans took to social media to share their opinions of the show, with some bingeing it within 24 hours.
Run Away currently has a 7.1 out of 10 rating on Netflix and a 75 per cent rating on Rotten Tomato.
It has just overtaken Stranger Things in the Netflix rankings. The supernatural series, which follows a group of teenagers as they battle an existential threat from a parallel universe, has been one of the streaming service’s tentpole productions ever since the first season premiered back in 2016.
The latest instalment, which has been three years in the making, is the fifth and final series of Stranger Things. It was released in three parts over November and December 2025, with the big finale airing on New Year’s Eve.
