Oldham primary school named as borough's top performer

The rankings were published by the government last month and are based on the Key Stage 2 SATs assessments taken by year six pupils in the summer term.

Christ Church Primary School in Chadderton had the highest percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard at 90 per cent.

The school also had 10 per cent of pupils achieve higher than expected.

By comparison, the overall percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in Oldham was 58 per cent, while the national overall percentage was 62 per cent.

Christ Church Primary School in Chadderton also had higher average reading and maths scores at 108 and 109 respectively.

Again, this is above the averages for Oldham as a whole which were both 104. The national average for reading was 106 and the average for maths was 105.

Headteacher Debra Davies said: “Being the top performing school in Oldham for the second year on a run is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our pupils, staff, governors, and families here at Christ Church School Chadderton.

“It reflects strong outcomes, effective teaching and learning and the positive environment we foster every day.

“We are very proud of this achievement and remain focused on ensuring all our pupils continue to thrive and grow.”

St Anne's CofE Lydgate Primary School followed closely behind Christ Church with 87 per cent of pupils meeting the national standard and 10 per cent achieving higher, and Diggle School with 90 per cent meeting the national standard.
