'Disgusting': Group ditches huge Chadderton restaurant bill

Chadderton Bar and Grill is a popular restaurant which saw one of its busiest days on Saturday (February 14), with dozens of couples celebrating together with a meal out.

The restaurant posted on social media after one table of four left without paying their bill that evening, saying it wanted to warn other businesses.

The post, which included CCTV footage of three of the people leaving, said that the restaurant normally "respects customers' privacy" but that staff felt it was "important to raise awareness".

Speaking to The Oldham Times, the owner of the Chadderton Bar and Grill, Lokrum Gurbuz, explained that the group of four, one man and three women, had ordered desserts and then told staff members they were going outside to smoke.

However, the group never came back inside, and when staff checked, they were nowhere to be found, and had not paid for their food and drinks.

A picture of the table's bill shows that some of the most expensive items included two fillet steaks, eight pornstar martinis, and two fillet steak pasta dishes.

The bill came to a total of £234.45.

Mr Gurbuz explained that the group had even complained about some food and had it remade.

Mr Gurbuz said: "It's one of the busiest days.

"It's always when it's busy that people don't pay and just go, because we can't focus on what they're doing, where they're going.

"It's not just about the money.

"We lost a lot of time, and couldn't look after our other customers fully with how much we had to do for them.

"They just went out for a smoke and disappeared."

Mr Gurbuz explained that people have contacted the business having recognised the people in the footage, and that they have managed to speak to one of the people involved.

He explained that he had told them that if they didn't come to pay the bill, they would be reported to the police.

Comments under the post made to the business's website expressed outrage at the behaviour.

One person labelled the act 'disgusting' while another said: "What is wrong with people honestly?

"We only visited you once, as we are not from the area, but you guys were fantastic.

"Very friendly staff, and when my daughter found her chicken burger too spicy, you went above and beyond and made her a fresh beef burger and fresh chips."

Another user said: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour by some people, we have been here many times and it is always great service and food.

"Hope they see this post and come back and pay."
