A large sinkhole has appeared on a busy street in Royton, which is currently allegedly being used as a rat-run.
The sinkhole appeared on Wednesday (April 8) on Berkeley Drive, according to resident Mark Nicholls.
Mr Nicholls said: “There’s nothing under the tarmac. Anything that goes around it, if it’s close enough, it will just go under.
“It’s going to be a hazard.”
The 50-year-old painter and decorator said it is particularly concerning as his road is a busy street, which has become even busier recently.
At the start of February, the nearby Sheepfoot Lane closed due to maintenance work. Now, some drivers have started using Berkeley Drive as a rat-run.
The Sheepfoot Lane closure is expected to last several months.
The road runs between Royal Oldham Hospital and Boundary Park, home of Oldham Athletic, and is used as a major route for both patients and fans.
A council spokesperson said: “We are aware of a sinkhole that has appeared in a road and took immediate action to make the area safe. The sinkhole has been barriered off and further investigations will be carried out.
“We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this is being dealt with.”
