With one of the most reasonably priced pints of Guinness in Oldham, a welcoming beer garden and a packed weekly event schedule, there’s a reason some customers have been visiting this Failsworth pub for decades
The Willow Tavern, located on Ashton Road East, is The Oldham Times' latest Pub of the Week, and it started out life as an ale house built in 1870.
Today, the pub remains an important part of the community, according to manager Paul Cheshire.
He said: “Everyone here is like a very close family. There’s one or two people who have been coming here now for about 45 years easily.”
“When anybody says they’re going out, they say they’re going to the Willow. They say it’s one of the best pubs in Failsworth.”

There are a number of reasons the pub has continued to be so popular over the years.
Paul told The Oldham Times about some of the positive feedback they regularly receive from visitors.
The 61-year-old said: “It's very calm and friendly, the staff are brilliant, the food is excellent and the place is very clean.”
He also gave particular mention to the pub’s cleaner who will soon be leaving but has been at the Willow Tavern for 27 years.

Paul said: “She gets a lot of feedback about Willow. People always tell what a lovely pub they’re running at the Willow.”
Another compliment the pub always gets is for their Guinness, which Paul says they serve at a “wonderful price”.

He added: “They say they’re only coming in for one, then they have some food and they end up staying for about seven or eight pints of Guinness.”
The Willow Tavern is well known for its food and specialises in the hearty traditional dishes, such as rag pudding and the cheese and onion pie, which Paul says “always flies” when it’s on the menu.
Other popular items include the chicken casserole, steak baguettes and the Sunday Roast, which is available every day of the week.

While it is a great place to relax, particularly when the sun is shining and customers can make the most of the beer garden, it also offers a number of weekly events.
Paul explained that they have a women’s and a men’s darts team who meet at the pub every week. They also host weekly quizzes and poker nights on Thursdays, as well as live sports.
During the weekends, the pub gets a bit more lively with karaoke and disco nights, and they also host a number of other live music acts.
