Spud Bros visit to Oldham attracts three-hour long queues

The Preston-based spud van, which has grown a wide following online in recent years, pitched up at the Latics’ ground for the club’s Football Festival and family fun day.

Jake and Harry Nelson, the brothers behind the viral business, posted regular updates throughout their weekend in Oldham, showing photos of the long queues. They had to set up barriers to help control the crowds.

On the second day, the brothers posted an apology to customers as they were forced to close early after running out of potatoes.

It appears as though there were more disappointed customers missing out on the third and final day as well.

Posting on Facebook at the end of the three-day stint in Oldham, Spud Bros wrote: “Oldham… that’s a wrap! The queue is now officially closed, huge apologies to anyone who missed out tonight.

“We have to be finished by 6pm, and with the queue running at over 2 hours long, we sadly couldn’t take any more orders. The support has been unreal once again!”

They said in one of the their posts as they were coming to the last of their stock that they went through an impressive 60 boxes of potatoes.

The comment section underneath their posts have received many glowing reviews from fans.

Jamie Brown wrote: “Well done to the team, long hard days but they still smile every minute, keep it up. I loved mine on Friday, best SpudBros in the UK, can’t see anyone beating the bros, the garlic chicken was to die for, 5 star.”

Rosie Sowerby said: “My kids had me queuing two hours but they absolutely loved it! The spuds and my daughter meeting a ‘celebrity’, you all deserve a well needed rest after the past few days!”

Alison Oswell said: “We queued for an hour! Well worth it though. My daughter was absolutely buzzing, she got a photo. As a little bonus she ended up being on the live! How to make a 16 year old’s dreams come true .... take her for a spud. Cheers guys, Oldham is waiting for the opening of a shop.”

At the same time, some Oldhamers clearly did not buy into the hype and were surprised to see so many people waiting in line for a jacket potato.

Bernadette Patterson said: “Must be mad it's a jacket spud I'd rather make my own, wouldn’t mind trying the tram sauce though.”

Michael Chadderton said: “Imagine queuing up for two hours to get a spud. Unfathomable how sad your life must be to do that.”

Another person commented with a picture of one a Spud Bros jacket potato, saying: “Lmao letting someone queue three hours and serving them this shambles.”
