Volunteers are being invited to take part in a major international event.

Oldham will welcome the Tour de France Femmes in 2027, marking a rare moment in sporting history and offering residents a chance to get involved as part of the nationwide call for 9,000 volunteers, known as JOY Makers.

The race will pass through the borough on Friday, July 30, and volunteers will play a key role in bringing the event to life, assisting with event operations, supporting spectators, and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Neil Consterdine, director of communities at Oldham Council, said: "This is a truly unique volunteering offer and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feel the buzz of being a part of a history making event, while meeting new people and celebrating your local community.

"Volunteering is a fantastic way to build confidence, develop new skills and gain valuable experience, all while giving something back and making a real difference where you live.

"Whether you have volunteered before, are a regular on a bike or are completely new to volunteering and the world of cycling, everyone is welcome as a JOY Maker."

The application portal is already open and will remain so until September 1.

Anyone aged 16 and over can apply, and no previous volunteering experience is required.

Full training will be provided, and organisers are especially keen to encourage young people and individuals from underrepresented groups to get involved.

For those aged 18 to 25, the opportunity includes access to the Readiness to Work scheme, which combines volunteering with skills training and mentoring to boost future employment prospects.

JOY Makers will be involved across all six stages of the event, creating an unforgettable experience for visitors.
