An Oldham chippy has been named among the best in the North West as part of the first ever English Fish and Chip Awards.
Announced just in time for the National Fish and Chip day on Friday, the shortlist of 16 North West finalists covers the length and breadth of the region, including five from Greater Manchester.
Along with regional winners, the awards will celebrate all aspects of the fish and chips business, with awards for the best marketing, menu, multi-site operator, mobile shop, historic chippy and city centre shop.
The local chippy feature in the regional list isThe Village Chippy in Failsworth, which shared the awards' post about the shortlist with customers on social media.
In response, customers have commented with messages of support.
Pamela Bentley said: "Well deserved! I switched from a previous chippy in Failsworth as the food was not consistent or quality anymore. I'm so glad I did as we as a family feel we definitely get value for money along with nostalgic memories how chippy should taste. Your mushy peas are the best."
Angie Ainsworth said: "Fantastic so proud of you all, the recognition is well deserved. Will keep my fingers crossed for you to get good result."
This will be the first time the English Fish and Chip Awards will be taking place.
The organisers, Paramount Events, have had success running the Scottish version of the awards for the last three years and have decided to bring their "passion south of the border".
