Young people are being encouraged to help make history when some of the best cyclists in the world will be flying through the streets of Oldham next year
Those living in Oldham aged 18 to 25 can gain work experience by volunteering at a global sporting event when the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift passes through the borough on July 30, 2027.
The Readiness to Work scheme, launched by Grand Départ GB and delivered by British Cycling, will give young adults the chance to volunteer as "JOY Makers" at the Grand Départs.
Neil Consterdine, director of communities at Oldham Council, said: "The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift coming through Oldham is a landmark moment for our borough, but we want the legacy of this event to be felt long after the race has finished.
"This volunteering programme is a brilliant opportunity for young people in Oldham to build real skills, gain professional experience, and take a genuine step towards employment, all while being part of something historic.
"We'd encourage any eligible young person in the borough to get involved."
The programme supports 300 young people nationwide and offers three months of mentoring with professionals across sport, event management, marketing and communications.
Participants will also develop nationally recognised employability skills, including CV writing, interview preparation, resilience training and financial education.

This also includes a girls’ participation programme, digital resources for schools, and a community engagement toolkit, all of which are being supported by Oldham Council for the 2027 Grand Départ.

The starting and finishing points of the historic first-ever visit of the women's race to Britain were revealed back in January, with Manchester announced as host city for both the Stage One finish on July 30, 2027, and the Stage Two start the following day.
