Vandals slammed for damaging trees on Oldham estate

The incident occurred on the Barker Street estate in Oldham, where First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) said Cherry and Rowan trees aged between five and 20 years old had their bark stripped.

David Wrigley, head of neighbourhood care at FCHO, said: "We’d very much like to know more information about the unacceptable and mindless damage to these trees.

"If anyone does know who caused it then please contact FCHO and we will pass this on to Greater Manchester Police.

"These trees – a haven for wildlife – do so much to make this neighbourhood a nice place to live and I know FCHO staff and customers are upset it has happened."

Experts say two of the trees will not survive due to the extent of the damage, and replacing the trees will cost £500 each.

Mr Wrigley added: “I also know many people will find it difficult to understand why someone would do this.

"Such anti-social behaviour is not without cost either. The bill to replace these trees is £1,000 which is extra money we have to find." 

The damaged trees were located outside the Finchcroft and Tentercroft blocks.
