The Pineapple Inn in Shaw releases own song for charity

For the second year in a row, the Pineapple Inn has been nominated in the Entertainment Pub category at the awards ceremony, run by the bar’s parent company, Proper Pubs.

To cement the Pineapple’s status as a top entertainment pub, landlord and DJ Andy Parkes, 49, decided to put his musical talents to use and create the Pineapple Inn’s own anthem.

He penned the lyrics himself and then produced the song using AI.

He told The Oldham Times that customers and regulars have really taken to the song and absolutely "love it."

Mr Parkes said: "It’s quite a catchy song. Some of our older regulars who come for bingo love it when we put it on while they’re in. A couple of them get up dancing.

"My dad’s obsessed. He’s 80 on Friday and he asked for it yesterday, he really wanted it on."

When asked about the use of AI for the song, he said: "I think people are just quite impressed that we’ve actually done something like this.

"It’s something probably no one else has done. No one has done it in our company, as far as I know."

The song, which is called The Pineapple Pub, features pop-style melodies sung by a female singer, with lyrics that describe the pub’s "cold beer, good cheer and the joy we bring."

It is available to download and stream on platforms such as Spotify and iTunes.

Any revenue from the song will be going to charity. The team is yet to choose a cause but have a history of donations to organisations such as Rochdale Food Bank, Andy’s Man Club and the Proper Pub’s chosen charity Claire’s House.

The landlord said: "We never did it to make money; it was just a bit of fun. So we said if we did get anything from it, we’d put it to charity.

"Proper Pubs is classed as a community pub group. They do a lot for charity, whether it’s food banks, local hospitals or whatever. They’ve also got a national charity, which is Claire’s House. We’ve been raising money for them over the World Cup and we’ve just donated £100.

"So something that started as a bit of fun, we looked at it and thought, why not do something more with it? And that’s basically where we’re at."

Mr Parkes took on the pub two years ago, along with his wife Melissa, 43.

Since then, they have worked hard to provide their customers with a wide variety of events and activities.

He said: "We’ve done different things – we’ve decorated the garden to make it a bit nicer and we run Pine Fest twice a year, which is like a little festival.

"The garden’s not very big, but we have live DJs outside and things like that. We’re very much an entertainment‑based pub.

"We do bingo on Wednesdays, quizzes on Thursdays, DJs on Fridays and Saturdays, and then we always have live entertainment on Sunday afternoons and karaoke on Sunday evenings."

Mr Parkes also DJs under the name DJ Andy P at the Town Hall Tavern, which is also part of the Proper Pubs group and is a fellow entertainment pub nominee in the Entertainment category.
