Sul Lago opened at its location on Cutler Hill Road next to Crime Lake more than 25 years ago and has become one of the borough's best-known restaurants, with it being particularly popular with Premier League footballers.
Now, planning documents have revealed that the restaurant could be developed into apartments due to the current site being "no longer financially viable".

According to Sul Lago's owner and head chef Aldo Lucci, "all future viable options" are being explored for the restaurant.
Mr Lucci also expressed his appreciation for the support from Oldham Council's planning department and said Sul Lago's priority is to continue serving the restaurant's "valued customers" by exploring different options.
According to planning documents, the redevelopment of the scenic site is being pursued as the "current commercial function is no longer viable".
Instead, a "sensitive and sustainable reuse" of the building is being explored, which will see five apartments developed, each with bedrooms, a bathroom, a living space, and a kitchen.
A partial extension is also part of the approved proposal, while balconies are set to be installed on the first floor and 10 parking spaces will be available for potential residents.
The development would mark the end of more than two-and-a-half decades of Sul Lago serving up Italian classics at the site and becoming extremely popular with locals and footballing royalty.
In 2022, the entire Manchester City squad and staff dined at Sul Lago to commemorate the departure of former midfielder Fernandinho just days before they went on to win the Premier League title.
More recently, the team's current goalkeeper and Italian native Gianluigi Donnarumma was seen enjoying the food and posing for pictures.
According to an application report prepared by an Oldham Council planning officer, Sul Lago's closure at the site would represent the "loss of a community resource of some twenty-five years" and would have employment and economic impacts.
While these factors were considered, the officer felt they did not outweigh the potential benefits of the scheme.
