Two Oldham restaurants have been nominated for this year’s Asian Restaurant Awards.
Organised by the UK’s Asian Catering Foundation, the awards aim to highlight the best of Bangladeshi, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Nepalese, Pan-Asian, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Middle Eastern cuisine.
The long national shortlist of restaurants includes 19 Greater Manchester spots, more than any other region in the country.
The two Oldham restaurants to make the list are Shimlas in the town centre and The Palm in Chadderton.
Shimlas is a franchise restaurant with other branches mainly in West Yorkshire in Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, and Keighley.
The Palm is a function room and all-you-can-eat buffet on Middleton Road, which is popular with local food influencers and vloggers.
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Manchester Deansgate Hotel on September 7.
The judging panel includes chef Tony Khan; chef Binod Baral, Global Goodwill Ambassador for the Gurkha Centre charity and brand ambassador of Gurkha Beer; Thomas Chan, chairman of the Chinese Catering Association; Rajesh Suri, a restaurateur and food and beverage professional; Shahagir Bakth Faruk, a restaurateur; chef Ken Wang, a master of Chinese cuisine; and Teddy KC Chen, a serial entrepreneur and restaurateur.

Members of the public can vote for their favourite restaurants via the Asian Restaurant Awards website.
Chair of the Asian Catering Federation, Yawar Khan, said: "I am delighted to announce this year’s shortlist at a time when we welcome Andy Burnham to No.10.
"Manchester is a city that welcomes international cuisine and is host to some of the very best Asian restaurants and takeaways in the UK."
