The unique Airbnb located in Oldham is based in a lovingly restored 1895 Great Western Railway (GWR) carriage, and has quickly become a favourite with guests who want to experience something a little different.

Located in Saddleworth, the carriage is one of the few of its kind situated on a Victorian station and has been transformed into a self-contained living space complete with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and all the comforts of home.

The host, Nigel, has won praise from guests for his warm hospitality and attention to detail, with many reviewers noting the historical touches and personal tributes that make the stay so memorable.

Guest reviews have earned the venue a top 1 per cent spot among listings. 

It has an average rating of 5 stars for cleanliness, accuracy, check-in, communication, and location and a 4.9 rating for value.

Andrew, who stayed at the carriage in June 2026, said: "We greatly enjoyed staying in the old GWR carriage for two nights; it had been sympathetically restored and fitted out, and everything needed was there, including some breakfast items for the next morning.

"Nigel was very helpful and friendly, and went the extra mile to make it a good stay."

Another guest, Toni, said: "Absolutely wonderful place to stay! Nigel was an amazing host, very friendly and welcoming and even showed us around his home (the original train station)."

The carriage is filled with original features and vintage decor, creating an authentic Victorian atmosphere without compromising on comfort.

"Nigel is the perfect host, very friendly and the extras he left us - prosecco, crumpets butter, fresh coffee and flowers were very much appreciated, we had everything we needed and more.

"Definitely recommend this place for a romantic getaway.

The carriage is located a 10-minute drive from the Peak District National Park and is within easy reach of Saddleworth’s picturesque villages and walking routes.

Uppermill is within walking distance, and the nearby Old Bell Inn is home to a world record-holding gin emporium.

Guest Aaron said: "Nigel greeted us on arrival, told us of the history of the carriage and platform, which was lovely.

"Nigel made sure we had milk for tea and coffee, there was shampoo and wash available in the bathroom and a bottle of wine to enjoy in the evening.

Airbnb lists the price of a stay in October at £140 per night for two guests, reflecting its popularity and the care put into its restoration.

The carriage is also located close to some of Saddleworth’s most popular annual events, including the Whit Friday brass band contest, the Yanks weekend, and the Rushcart festival.
