The closure will be in place from the junction with Standedge Road to the junction with Littlemoor Lane.
An alternative route will be available via Standedge Road, Wool Road and Huddersfield Road, and vice versa.
The order will remain in force for 19 days or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.
The council has advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly.
