A 40-year-old woman from Oldham has been ordered to pay nearly £400 after she faked childcare costs to claim Universal Credit over three years.
Michelle Louise Edgar pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and supplying false documents.
Between February 15, 2019 and November 14, 2022, Edgar declared false childcare costs to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) with the intention of claiming Universal Credit.
Edgar, of Shrewsbury Street in Oldham, also supplied the DWP with falsified receipts claiming to be proof of the childcare costs in order to help her commit fraud.

On July 24, Edgar was handed a community order, requiring her to complete up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity and 180 hours of unpaid work by July 23, 2027.
She must also pay a £114 surcharge for victim services and £85 in costs, as well as repay £199 via benefit deductions.
No compensation was ordered by the court, with the Magistrate's noting that this would create an 'undue burden'.
However, the court stated this will not rule out the possibility or prejudice the potential for civil recovery action.
The prosecution was brought by the Department for Work and Pensions.
