A 50p coin described as "extremely rare" has been listed for sale for more than £200 near Oldham.
The coin, advertised on eBay by a seller near Oldham, is priced at £260.70 and described as a “short left whisker” edition.
It is part of the Beatrix Potter coin collection from 2016 and ungraded.
An eBay user known as ‘aman2036’ is accepting offers below the listed price.
The advert for the coin said: "The product is a highly sought-after and valuable 50p coin from 2016, featuring a unique short left whisker design.
"Minted in Great Britain with a fineness of 0.925, this coin is a very rare find for collectors of British decimal coins.
"Uncertified and ungraded, this piece of British numismatic history is a special addition to any coin collection, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistry of the era of Elizabeth II."
Despite the claims of rarity, coin experts have dismissed claims that this coin is rare.
On its website, Chards, a specialist coin dealer, said: "Sadly, the 'half whisker' being rare is a myth.
"The half whisker is part of the design which all 9.6 million of the 2016 coins have.
"Yes, you will see them being offered for huge amounts on auction sites like eBay, but they never actually sell.
"Rather than waste your time trying to auction the coin, you'd be better off spending it."
The coin is part of a wider series created by The Royal Mint to celebrate the characters of Beatrix Potter, using designs by Emma Noble inspired by Potter’s original illustrations.
Genuinely rare coins in the Beatrix Potter series include the 2018 Flopsy Bunny 50p, with a mintage of 1.4 million.
This coin features Peter Rabbit’s sister in a design showing her signature cape and is the only UK coin to feature the character to date.
The 2018 Peter Rabbit coin is equally rare.
It depicts the famous rabbit munching on radishes after another near miss in Mr McGregor’s garden and was also produced in a mintage of 1.4 million.
Both coins have proven popular among collectors.
