Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ family home was raided by burglars whilst he was playing football in Italy.

His wife, Ana Pinho, and their two children were not at the luxury £4 million house in Nether Alderley when the break-in happened.

Three masked thieves forced their way into the six-bedroom property at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 21.

The 32-year-old midfielder was playing in a match with the United squad for the Champions League game against Como.

A neighbour alerted the police after spotting three people acting suspiciously in the back garden.

Despite the house being protected with high-tech security, it is understood that intruders may have jumped over a fence at the back of the property before breaking in.

But when officers arrived within 10 minutes of the call, the gang had fled.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 21, police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.

“The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. Officers attended the scene and on arrival there was no trace of the suspects.

“However, officers discovered that there had been a burglary at the address and a number of items had been stolen.”

Detective Inspector David Jarvis, of Macclesfield Proactive CID, said: “This investigation is in its early stages at this time, and we’re committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible.

“As part of our enquiries, we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the local area at the time and believes they may have witnessed anything suspicious.”

Police are scrutinising CCTV from neighbouring properties in their bid to find the burglars.

The club is supporting the Portugal star and has requested privacy at a difficult moment for him and his family.
