OLDHAM'S coronavirus infection rate has risen again, government figures have revealed.

Data released at 4pm today shows that the number of people who produced a positive test in the seven days up to June 9 per 100,000 in the borough was 159.4.

That figure is more than double what the national rate of 67.1 was up to that date.

In the week up to June 9, there were 378 cases reported in Oldham.

The latest daily cases showed that there were 63 cases found in the town.

Meanwhile in the UK, a total of 7,742 new cases have been discovered.

A further three deaths were reported across the UK yesterday.

There have now been 127,907 deaths linked to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The vaccination programme rolls on at speed.

A total of more than 41.6m first doses have been administered and just under 30m jabs have been given.
