EX-LATICS star Jack Byrne has said he is simply looking to settle down again following his controversial exit from Boundary Park last month.
As The Oldham Times reported, the 22-year-old midfielder was originally suspended from all first-team duties shortly before the new campaign kicked-off and forced to train with the youth squad before having his contract terminated by mutual consent for allegedly breaching club discipline.
The Irishman is now bidding to get his career back on track at Scottish Premier League outfit Kilmarnock.
“I can’t really say anything on the matter,” said Byrne, who made 44 appearances for Latics, scoring eight goals.
Speaking to the press in Scotland this week, he added: “I think most people know what went on. Oldham got relegated, I was probably one of the higher earners and they needed me to go.
“I needed to go as well to further my career. That was all it was. There wasn’t anything else to it. It is what it is – that’s football.”
The Dubliner, who came through the ranks at Manchester City, had spells in the Netherlands, Blackburn and Wigan before his loan move to Athletic was made permanent after a proposed switch to Hearts fell through in January.
Now he’s hoping to rebuild with Killie after signing a one-year deal on August 31. He has made one appearance so far and was an unused substitute in their shock 2-1 victory over Celtic on Sunday.
“I’m here now,” he added. “I’m just looking to learn and trying to get my career back on a steady track again.”
