MOSSLEY moved into the Evo-Stik West play-off positions with a hard-earned 1-0 win at Kendal Town.

The hosts made Mossley battle all the way for the victory but the Lilywhites proved too strong in the end to record their third double of the season.

Mossley gave a debut to goalkeeper Stuart Morrison after Josh Ollerenshaw was recalled by Ashton United and he performed with great credit to keep a deserved clean sheet.

After a couple of early Mosley attacks came to nothing, the visitors took the lead on 21 minutes when Mike Fish climbed highest to power home a header from eight yards from a Ben Richardson corner.

Ben Halfacre was unfortunate to see his clipped effort from distance come back off the post as Mossley looked to increase their advantage.

In the second half Richardson had the ball in the Kendal net but was flagged offside as was substitute Mason Duffy when he slotted home from a tight angle – both decisions being debatable.

Kendal had a couple of late chances from set-pieces but the in-form Mossley defence held firm to take an important three points.

In Hallmark Security League First Division North, Avro went second after a 3-0 win at Holker Old Boys.

Jack Turnbull scored twice inside the first 18 minutes for the visitors and Joseph Rathbone wrapped up the victory a minute from time.

In the same division, Chadderton won 4-0 at home against AFC Darwen.

Ben Matthews set them on their way after four minutes before Oumar Camara doubled their lead seven minutes later.

Dillan O’Connor made it 3-0 to the hosts on 27 minutes and Bailey Whalley netted a fourth six minutes from time to seal all three points.
