AFTER consecutive defeats by Newcastle and Hunslet, Oldham boss Scott Naylor said before the game at West Wales Raiders he was not interested in the score or the result – just the level of performance.

He didn’t mean it literally of course; rather that he knew a good team performance over 80 minutes would produce the right result anyway.

So how was he after the 72-8, 14-try victory at Stebonheath Park in Llanelli ?

“Good,” said the Roughyeds’ head coach.

“We came with the right attitude to do a professional job and that’s what we did.

“We scored nice tries, played good rugby and did the professional job that was expected of us.

“Raiders are a far better side this year than in previous years. They’re not the team they were. We knew that before we came down from this season’s footage we’ve seen of them.

“This place, without a doubt, has the potential to be a minefield for teams that come here without the right attitude or with the slightest feeling of complacency.

“We didn’t have either of those weaknesses. We were up for it and we did a good, thorough job.

“I made some changes and played some people in different positions and I felt those worked well.

“It was good to have Danny Langtree and Danny Bridge back on the field together.

“It was a good day all round, but we now start the serious work in preparing for Whitehaven’s visit to the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday in the new 1895 Cup and then for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully, we’ve had our blip and we can now put some consistency together and get a run of good performances and right results.”
