OLDHAM Athletics's Curacao duo tasted defeat in their first match at the Gold Cup.

Gevaro Nepomuceno played the full 90 minutes as his international side went down to a 1-0 defeat to El Salvador in a game played in Jamaica. 

Latics goalkeeper Zeus De La Paz was an unused substitute with PSV Eindhoven’s Eloy Room the number one choice for the Dutch Caribbean island. 

The Group C game was settled by a Nelson Bonilla goal in first half stoppage time in Kingston's Independence Park. 

Next up for Curacao is a game against Honduras in Houston on June 22 before they conclude the group phase by playing Jamaica in Los Angeles on June 26. 

It was a 37th cap for winger Nepomuceno who with eight international goals is one of the key members of the side.

De La Paz has two caps to his name and is at the tournament as one of the back-up 'keepers.  

They are captained by Everton defender Cuco Martina, the former Southampton man finishing last season on loan at Feyenoord. 

Cardiff City midfielder Leandro Bacuna is another important player for Remko Bicentini’s side.
