JACK Kilgannon is looking to make a major breakthrough on Friday night.

The Oldham middleweight takes on John Telford for the Central Area title at the Altrincham Ice Arena.

Not only is it the 23-year-old’s first title chance but it is set to be live on BT Sport as a supporting fight to the Ultimate Boxxer cruiserweight tournament.

The hope is Kilgannon and Telford will take to the ring in a prime slot between the semi-finals and finals.

The Ben Lancaster-trained fighter has won nine out of nine as a professional while Flixton’s Telford has lost one of his 11 fights. ahead of the intriguing clash at 160lb.

“It’s going to be a cracking fight,” said Kilgannon’s manager Steve Wood.

“They’ve done well choosing that for the live TV slot.

“It’s a good timing for both the lads.

“The winner will move on to bigger and better things but the loser will be in the position they are now and can rebuild.

“There’s no harm in both of them taking the fight.”

‘Jacky Boy’ was last in action when he outpointed the durable Serge Ambomo at the Bolton Whites Hotel in March and he is expecting a bumper following in Altrincham.

As part his preparations, Kilgannon and his training team helped out Oldham Athletic by putting the club’s academy players through a tough training session.

Victory would set him up nicely for bigger domestic clashes down the line as he looks to move through the rankings.

“I know I can sell tickets wherever I fight,” Kilgannon said ahead of the biggest fight of his career.

“I’ve got coaches going down from Oldham.

“Thanks to every one who has bought a ticket and we’re going to put on a show on the night.”

The Ultimate Boxxer tournament itself sees fighters compete for a share of a £50,000 prize pot with fights taking place over three three-minute rounds.

Four quarter-finals, two last-four contests and the final all take place on the night.

As well as being live on BT Sport the show is available to watch for free on BT Sports’  YouTube channel.
